Tae Kwon Do is an ancient form of unarmed combat practiced for many centuries in the Orient. Tae Kwon Do became perfected in its present form in North Korea. Translated from Korean, «Tae» literally means to jump or kick with the foot. «Kwon» means a fist, chiefly to punch or strike with the hand or fist. «Do» means art, way or method. Tae Kwon Do indicates the technique of unarmed combat for self-defence, involving the skilled application of punches, kicks, blocks, dodges and interception with the hands, arms and feet.

The popular martial art is suitable for the whole family. You don’t need to be fit or flexible to start, just be willing to work towards your own goals. Your fitness, flexibility and skills will improve as your progress through the grading syllabus (not mandatory).

Tae Kwon Do is thought to be similar to Karate and Kick Boxing. At Liverpool Taekwondo we follow the Great Britain Taekwondo Federation syllabus that now teaches the art of weaponry to all our senior students.
